We understand
that surgery can be a frightening experience for you and your family.
Our staff will provide you with a warm and caring setting that will
help ease some of your anxiety about the procedure.
What you can EXPECT from us...
A patient services specialist will check you in when you arrive at the center. Our
registration process is quick since we have already obtained most of
your information from your physician’s office when surgery was
scheduled. This final check allows us to verify all of your key
information so that we can better serve you. At this time, we will
make copies of your insurance card(s) and driver’s license (or photo
ID).
The pre-op nurse will begin your pre-operative procedures. You
will be escorted to the pre-op area where you will change into a gown.
The nurse will conduct a pre-operative assessment that will include
taking your vital signs. The nurse may start an IV if it is required
for your procedure.
Your family may stay with you in the pre-operative area, if you would like. We
believe family members or friends can assist in reducing your anxiety
about the procedure. Once all pre-operative questions and vitals are
complete, family and friends may sit with you until the time of your
surgery.
Your anesthesia provider will speak with you in the
pre-operative area and will explain your procedure and review all the
pre-operative information the nurse has collected.
What we need you to DO...
Plan to arrive one hour prior to your scheduled surgery time. Your
prompt arrival will allow adequate time for all the necessary admission
procedures and will help us keep things moving along for other patients
and families.
Please bring with you any paperwork given to you by your physician or nurse. Our staff will need this information on the day of your surgery.
Please bring your insurance card(s) and driver's license (or photo ID) with you. Our staff will need to make copies of these cards.
Please bring any prescribed or pain medications with you.
Leave jewelry and valuables at home. Even though we provide a safe environment, it is in your best interest to leave your valuables at home.
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing and shoes. For your comfort, we encourage you to wear clothing that is big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery.
Avoid wearing nail polish and cosmetics.
Wearing contact lenses is NOT advised, but we will provide containers for removable dentures and bridgework.
Bring a blanket or pillow for your ride home. If
you are driving more than 30 minutes, putting one or two pillows under
the surgical site will help keep it elevated and you more comfortable.
Do NOT smoke. Smoking may interfere with the anesthetic and frequently produces nausea during the recovery period.
Notify your physician if you think you may be pregnant. Anesthesia and medications may be harmful to your developing baby.
